Måløy is a sheltered port, well protected from the open sea. Nature itself has given it a strategic position in the middle of the shipping lane. This together with the fact that Måløy also is a starting point of the road across the mountain to other parts of Norway, make the port a major traffic crossroads.
Måløy is a combined transportation- and fishing port and has convenient approaches both from the south and the north.
The coastliner and most of the cargo boats are regular callers at the port of Måløy.
There is also an extensive cargo transportation to North-Sea ports and the Baltic.
Overseas transportation has long traditions in Måløy.
About 1500 ships, an equivalent of 7 500 000 brutto register tons, call at the port every year. This means that Måløy is on the «A-team» among the 60 registered ports in Norway. Ships up to 55 000 tons call at the port.
The transportation of containers has had the most marked increase. In 1996 9848 TEU-container-units were recorded.
The port of Måløy is well known for its efficiency and its wide range of services, 24 hours a day, having contributed strongly to its long traditions as a shipment and transshipment port.
Piloting is not compulsory in Måløy harbour, but a pilot can be ordered at the port authorities.
The port is open around the clock. The port authorities do not have a 24 hours' watch though, but can be contacted privately when necessary.

- Length of quay: 180 m. Depth: 6m.(7m. by the end of 1999)
- Electricity on shor: 400 V. amp. and 230 V./16 amp.
- Water supply: 20 tons/hr. per hose.
VHF-radio:
- Call on channels 12 and 16.
- Pilot boat «Klovningen» channels 12 and16.
